Springfield Township strengthened its district playoff position with this comfortable win. The Spartans moved up to third in the District One Class 4A Power Rankings, and four teams make the playoffs.
“We’re still vying for a playoff spot so we needed to win, and we did. The kids played well,” Springfield coach Dennis Primavera. “We scored six of 10 runs by moving runners, hitting balls well with men on, everything we do in practice. We executed baseball theories, so that was good to see.”
Springfield overcame an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the second, two more in the third, and four more in the fifth, putting the game out of reach. Macleod Farley paced Springfield at the plate, collecting three hits, scoring one run and driving in two.
“Farley’s been struggling lately but he broke out of it today. He jumped on balls and hit them sharply. They were line drives up the middle and to right,” Primavera said. “The triple was to right center and it was a shot. He has the ability to do that, and this was a good time for him to get hot.”
Nick Pave and McCaffrey each had two hits. Brian Murphy (three) and Morgan D’Amico (two) combined for five RBIs. Max Perry, Tim Dahme, Trevor McCaffrey, and Mitchell McCann all scored two runs.
“It was a team effort, which was a really good thing,” Primavera said. “We’ve been trying to harp on the little things all year that end up winning games.”
Riley Brink and Julian Gimbel scored Upper Dublin’s runs. Garrett Breslin and Jacob Womelsdorf knocked in the runs.
Springfield (7-7, 7-4 SOL) hosts Quakertown on Thursday at 3:45. Upper Dublin (3-10, 2-8 SOL) plays Hatboro-Horsham on the same day and time.
